They were bragging about their £9bn cash reserves yesterday.

Not a good idea then?

Called International Consolidated Airlines (IAG) now, and their debt is about £7.6 billion. But apart from those couple of small ricketts that's a good tip mate!

I’m no expert on the subject matter, but wouldn’t BA be a good bet?
Low price right now
High cash reserves so they’ll deffo stay afloat
Possibly taking over more routes from the likes of Virgin who are struggling.

Thanks for that Chim. I didn't realise being self employed with my wife's business effectively shut down, that Boris is going to pay all our bills for the foreseeable future you twat

Pop your tampon back in, Chim. It's just market forces, same as every other day.

Why don't some of you cunts just rummage around in the pockets of the poor dead bastards in the street over the next few months?

If you invested in disposable rubber gloves for that exact purpose I couldn't hate you more.

Profiteering in this climate is slightly lower than a snake's belly and I genuinely hope you catch Covid-19 soonest.

Maybe we can find a better, more decent way of treating one another once you are wiped out by your naked greed.

You're buying at 3.5p and selling later at 1.2p?

Fucking hell, thanks genius but I'll pass on that amazing deal because I literally can't afford it.

Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
For anyone who likes a punt. I3e. Listed on aim. Made one nice oil discovery recently in the North Sea, about to drill another hole, which is highly likely to have a good result. Massively underpriced @ 3.5p. I'll be selling @ 1.20p....

Mortgage on it, stand on me, etc.

Darby could I interest you in some magic beans?

They are guaranteed to hold onto their value in a recession

riosleftsock 2:05 Mon Mar 16
Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
Darby

I understand that, and in a normal recession I would agree with you.

This looks like it could be a one-off reset of the global currencies (with the dollar being the possible exception).

You can not print more gold.

Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
Rios, recessions are deflationary, not inflationary. People get poorer, so prices are dropped.

The "pound crashing" only means that it will crash in comparison to other currencies. It doesn't mean it loses value altogether.

In fact, the value of cash actually increases when you compare it to the plummeting value of assets like stocks, property, gold, bitcoin or whatever else is collapsing in value. We just don't normally think of that way.

1 pound will get you a bigger percentage of a company or a bigger speck of gold or silver than it did a few months ago.

riosleftsock 1:43 Mon Mar 16
Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
If you buy actual silver or gold, it has an advantage over any cash currency. It has a real value and is a finite resource. It can not be devalued by producing more of it, like cash.

If the Euro or pound crashes (which is very possible) you will be left holding cash with little value once inflation has taken hold.

Turpinator 1:40 Mon Mar 16
Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
Silver down 20% today confirms what Darby is saying. It is not a hedge. Gold in world currency terms been going down for 3 weeks now, so no hedge against stocks either.

Darby_ 1:36 Mon Mar 16
Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
I'll say it again although I'l no doubt be ignored. Things like gold are hedges against inflation. They are not a hedge against recession. Magic internet money is maybe, at a stretch, a hedge against inflation, but it's definitely not against a recession.

If the average man on the street holds $5k of bitcoin or gold and he loses his job, he'll have to sell that to pay his bills and groceries. Job losses are inevitable in a recession.

The only hedge against recession is cash.

HEED MY WORDS.

Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
The crypto world is heavily reliant on Bitcoin. Bitcoin is heavily reliant on China as it controls the vast majority of the hashing compute. While China is in disarray people are moving out to traditional options that are likely to be more useful in the even of the apocalypse.

I'll be buying again if BTC gets down to the 3000 dollar mark as I did last time. China should recover by the end of the year most likely. We might still be fucked though but that's a different problem.

Fuck I've caught it from Stubbo!

Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
I suspect that the US has closed down their society China-style we will have reached peak panic.

However, how quickly the world economy recovers after that is anyone’s guess.

Darby_ 12:58 Mon Mar 16
Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
Stubbo, when you start seeing companies giving profit warnings and then their share price actually goes up, you know that the market has probably priced in the bad news.

However, the market could be overly optimistic there. What we don’t know is how bad the medical situation is going to get, and how bad and long the resulting recession will be. I can’t help you there.

riosleftsock 12:57 Mon Mar 16
Re: Buying the Stock Dip?
I wouldn't touch the stock market at present, other than market trackers at the higher end.

If you've got cash and you need to invest, chuck into gold or silver and forget about it until this blows over.

If the virus outcome is as bad as predicted, there will be a re-ordering of our economies, politics and international supply chains. Lots of blue chip companies will disappear. There will be many opportunities for new start ups and for MBOs.

If there is no change in law on airlines, then an outfit buying up easyjet or a national carrier for a few quid and no staff liabilities after the crash could really clean up.
